What if changing our relationship to drinking or using was not so Black or white?
When clients come to therapy seeking change they are usually struggling with the knowledge they want to do something different but find it hard to execute.
The part of change they struggle with is not intellectual it is emotional. They are struggling with the intense emotions that arise when we try to change or let go of drinking or using.
Getting support with our emotions and learning how to respond to them differently, with curiosity and attention, allows us to discover new possibilities.
We can let go of old ways, old habits.
We Can let go of old ways of coping.
With awareness we can create new ways of responding and thinking which change our relationship with drinking or using and which feel more in align with our life and goals today.
I welcome clients who want to change their understanding of why they drink or use.
I support your goals for your life whether this is abstinence, taking a time out or just re-adjusting.
I support members of 12 step programs as well as those who find 12 -step is not a good fit for them.
